Headlight Problem, 2002 Pace Arrow

Laura

The pictures below clearly show the headlight problem on my 2002 Pace Arrow.  These pictures were taken after the adjustments you made on my first service visit.

What you see above is the low beam headlight pattern as seen from inside the coach as seen driving down the road. The stair step pattern on the right reaches out about 25 ft from the front of the coach and stair steps down to the left. Try cruising down the freeway at night with these headlights!

This is the low beam pattern as seen from outside the coach standing to the right about 5 feet. The wall is exactly 25 feet from the front of the coach.

After leaving the motorhome with Mike Thomson’s RV Service Center for another 2 weeks I was told that there was nothing wrong with the headlights and if I had a complaint I would have to take the unit to the factory as there was nothing they could do.

Knowing that they had not corrected the lighting issue and knowing that if we were to leave town we would surely need to use the headlights before we reached our destination so we decided not to go. Instead, I checked out the headlights myself, printed out a headlight alignment procedure from the Internet at http://www.autooptiks.com/aiming.html and armed with a screwdriver, tape measure, sidewalk chalk and my digital camera we made our way to the nearest dark lot with a convenient white wall on which to do the alignment.

In the first picture you can make out the alignment lines drawn on the white building in blue chalk using the procedure I printed from the web site link listed above.

Here you can see a before (left) and after (right) light pattern using the low beam headlights.

Here are the before and after views as seen from outside the coach 25 ft from the wall.

The high beam lights were out of alignment as well and I aligned them according to the procedure I printed from the Internet. The pictures on the left are before alignment and the right is after alignment.

If a machine was used to make these adjustments, the machine must not be functioning correctly or it is being used incorrectly or a combination of both. When I returned the unit the second time with the same complaint, maybe someone should have driven the coach after dark so they could have seen the problem I was describing.
