This is a vacuum fixture plate to hold down LCD display modules for the iPad.

It will be used to drill out the mounting screw holes because the plastic keeps breaking when the screws are inserted because they are too small.

The groove for the O-ring seal is being machined. This cord comes on a reel and once the proper length is determined, I cut the ends of the cord on an angle and place it in the fixture so that when the cord gets compressed it pushes the angled surfaces into one another ensuring a leak free joint.

The bottom of the fixture showing the vacuum line plumbing. The fixture is segmented into 3 zones with a separate vacuum generator evacuating each zone.

The vacuum port “pin hole” was engineered to be just large enough to allow for a good vacuum on each display but small enough so that if 2 or 3 displays were to be dislodged or otherwise leak, the vacuum generator could still keep up with the leak and provide sufficient vacuum for the other displays in that circuit.

Here is a good shot of the O-ring seal as well as the vacuum port (in the center of the cross hairs) and the grid.
