A friend came to me with a problem. He remodeled his bathroom and the ceramic toilet paper holder wasn’t made correctly and the tube that holds the TP is too high and the roll hits the holder.

He was looking for a diamond grinding bit so he could try to grind out some of the hole that the tube fits in.

I felt that making a new “Toilet Paper Holder Rod” was a better option:

I designed up a replacement set of parts to replace the tube but re use the spring inside. The ends are offset to lower the height of the tube by  ¼”

To test the idea, I modified the original tube design to make pieces to insert into the original tube after cutting off the ends in the lathe.

This prototype was tested for functionality then I printed out the complete parts.

In this view you can see how the parts can be forced together and once past the ridge, the parts slide very easily but won’t come apart from the spring force alone.http://www.grifftek.com/grifftek/3d_printing/TP_Holder/graphics/transparenth120.gif

This is the actual 3d printed finished product that will use the spring from the home depot TP roll holder. It will lower the roll by ¼” in the ceramic part allowing clearance for the roll.
